Ready! Aim! Fire!

Have you ever been soooo determined to get something or do something? You reached out, you dedicated time towards it and you were convinced it was the way to go. I certainly get that way. I talk to God about it. I talk to others about it. I confirm to myself what the benefits will be. I shoo away thoughts of negative consequences or ignore warning queues. I especially close the door on the motive – not what I say out loud – but my heart motive. Is it a trust issue? Is it a faith issue? I try to use the integrity screening to check myself – do the right thing, the right way, for the right reason, expecting the right results (all results), to benefit others and glorify God. I confess I don’t always screen…..with integrity that is. My screening can be biased – what I want, when I want, for my reason because I want to think I know what I need to target to make be happy.

God gave us free will. We use this free will to shoot at targets of our desires to fulfill needs and wants. We often think because we are clear where we are aiming, we will have a solid shot. But if we had a close-up view of our target paper, it would be so tattered from the shots we took aiming and shooting at every spot but THE RIGHT TARGET. God wants our target to be Him. Do we agree there is nothing from which He should be excluded? If this is true, then that bull’s eye center (God) should be the only spot marked by our aims. Does my circumstance dictate my aim? My feelings control my trigger? Am I even working on MY target sheet?

Target Acquisition means having a clear vision of the target. At what am I trying to shoot? Am I randomly firing my resources or am I focused on what I need to hit?

Romans 1:18-32
18 God’s anger is revealed from heaven against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known. 19 God punishes them, because what can be known about God is plain to them, for God himself made it plain. 20 Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made. So those people have no excuse at all! 21 They know God, but they do not give him the honor that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness. 22 They say they are wise, but they are fools; 23 instead of worshiping the immortal God, they worship images made to look like mortals or birds or animals or reptiles.
24 And so God has given those people over to do the filthy things their hearts desire, and they do shameful things with each other. 25 They exchange the truth about God for a lie; they worship and serve what God has created instead of the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever! Amen. 26 Because they do this, God has given them over to shameful passions. Even the women pervert the natural use of their sex by unnatural acts. 27 In the same way the men give up natural sexual relations with women and burn with passion for each other. Men do shameful things with each other, and as a result they bring upon themselves the punishment they deserve for their wrongdoing. 28 Because those people refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, he has given them over to corrupted minds, so that they do the things that they should not do. 29 They are filled with all kinds of wickedness, evil, greed, and vice; they are full of jealousy, murder, fighting, deceit, and malice. They gossip 30 and speak evil of one another; they are hateful to God, insolent,[a] proud, and boastful; they think of more ways to do evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no conscience; they do not keep their promises, and they show no kindness or pity for others. 32 They know that God’s law says that people who live in this way deserve death. Yet, not only do they continue to do these very things, but they even approve of others who do them.

1 Corinthians 3:18-21
18 You should not fool yourself. If any of you think that you are wise by this world’s standards, you should become a fool, in order to be really wise. 19 For what this world considers to be wisdom is nonsense in God’s sight. As the scripture says, “God traps the wise in their cleverness”; 20 and another scripture says, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are worthless.” 21 No one, then, should boast about what human beings can do. Actually everything belongs to you
1 Corinthians 4:5
So you should not pass judgment on anyone before the right time comes. Final judgment must wait until the Lord comes; he will bring to light the dark secrets and expose the hidden purposes of people’s minds. And then all will receive from God the praise they deserve

What is your target? Your Aim? Your Vision?
Your focus is based on faith which is based on fact.

THE TARGET is your walk before the Lord.

Who I am is meaningless unless I KNOW what that target is to look like.

The target is the right result. We get there by asking “What does God expect?”.

What is YOUR target?
1) God wants us to do what is right. Joshua 7:1 – The LORD’s command to Israel not to take from Jericho anything that was to be destroyed was not obeyed. A man named Achan disobeyed that order, and so the LORD was furious with the Israelites. (Achan was the son of Carmi and grandson of Zabdi, and belonged to the clan of Zerah, a part of the tribe of Judah.)
a. When fact and faith are off, then your focus is off.
b. Eliminate any thoughts, practices or possessions that hinder our devotion to God.
2) God wants us to do what He considers right. Judges 17:6 – 6 There was no king in Israel at that time; everyone did whatever they wanted.
a. God sets the standard.
b. Just because we think it is right, doesn’t make it right.
3) God’s Word reveals to us what is right. Isaiah 5:20 – 20 You are doomed! You call evil good and call good evil. You turn darkness into light and light into darkness. You make what is bitter sweet, and what is sweet you make bitter.
a. Romans 1 tell us we have no excuse. Prov. 17:15 – Condemning the innocent or letting the wicked go—both are hateful to the LORD. Matthew 6:22-23 22 “The eyes are like a lamp for the body. If your eyes are sound, your whole body will be full of light; 23 but if your eyes are no good, your body will be in darkness. So if the light in you is darkness, how terribly dark it will be!
b. And reiterated in Luke 11:34-35 34 Your eyes are like a lamp for the body. When your eyes are sound, your whole body is full of light; but when your eyes are no good, your whole body will be in darkness. 35 Make certain, then, that the light in you is not darkness.
4) God has built an awareness of what is right into every society. Romans 2:12-15 12 The Gentiles do not have the Law of Moses; they sin and are lost apart from the Law. The Jews have the Law; they sin and are judged by the Law. 13 For it is not by hearing the Law that people are put right with God, but by doing what the Law commands. 14 The Gentiles do not have the Law; but whenever they do by instinct what the Law commands, they are their own law, even though they do not have the Law. 15 Their conduct shows that what the Law commands is written in their hearts. Their consciences also show that this is true, since their thoughts sometimes accuse them and sometimes defend them.
